Although it took awhile for Mario 64 clones to appear, the floodgates eventually opened, and that includes Starshot: Space Circus Fever, which was released in June 1999 for Nintendo 64 (N64). Starshot: Space Circus Fever was a French team’s attempt at developing the next great 3D action/adventure game. Did they succeed?

Starshot: Space Circus Fever has a striking concept that almost falls to be a failure. First, because of some platforming zones that are a challenge if you don’t adjust the camera properly, nothing too difficult tho. Second, some maps: Earth and the Virtua Circus (last level) are frustrating and boring, and as you say, the last one has no resemblance with a circus at all. The last boss and ending could have been better too.
The game has some annoying issues, mainly the camera, I agree. However, I remember the environments to be colorful, with funny characters, cameos and events. The music is very good and catchy in some levels. There are pretty interesting situations, and most of the worlds are very different from eachother… individually, they have profoundly distinctive themes, and are actually fun to explore and play.
Starshot has a lot to offer. I’m not saying this is a great game, but I don’t think it’s a bad one either. Starshot is far away from being a masterpiece, nevertheless, you can’t say is one of the worst (search top lists and you’ll find some utter garbage for the N64) and compare it to a platformer like Mario, there is no point of comparison because of the difference of time and design. Nevertheless, if you judge the experience on its own: it’s worth a play.
