NBA Showtime: NBA on NBC (N64) Comments

NBA Showtime: NBA on NBC for Nintendo 64 (N64) arrived in November 1999.  It was the latest in the lineage of the old NBA Jam games (NBA Hangtime came out on N64 in January 2007).  After the success of NFL Blitz, did Midway capture the magic of the original NBA Jam with NBA Showtime?

NBA Jam 99 (N64) Comments

Despite the pedigree of its name, NBA Jam 99 is a serious basketball simulation along the same lines as Acclaim’s NFL Quarterback Club, All-Star Baseball, and NHL Breakaway series.  Acclaim purchased the rights to the name under Midway’s nose and released NBA Jam 99 in December 1998 for Nintendo 64 (N64).

NBA In The Zone ’98 (N64) Comments

NBA In the Zone ’98 for Nintendo 64 (N64) arrived in February 1998 from Konami.  It was the first basketball simulation to be released on N64, but it really was not any good.  Did anyone like it?

NBA Hangtime (N64) Comments

NBA Hangtime for Nintendo 64 (N64) was an early release for the system in January 1997.  NBA Hangtime was the true sequel to NBA Jam: Tournament Edition.  (Acclaim bought the rights to the “NBA Jam” name under Midway’s nose.)  At the time, NBA Hangtime was the best version of NBA Jam on any system.  Is it still that good?

Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon (N64) Comments

Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon for Nintendo 64 (N64) arrived on U.S. shelves in April 1998.  It put Goemon (i.e., Mystical Ninja) in a three-dimensional, Super Mario 64-like world, except with a little more emphasis on adventure.  Did you like Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon?

Multi-Racing Championship (N64) Comments

Multi-Racing Championship, or MRC, was released for Nintendo 64 (N64) in September 1997.  Although it had potential because of its unique branching, multi-terrain concept, it also lacked challenge and longevity.  What did you think about Multi-Racing Championship?

Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero (N64) Comments

When it was released for Nintendo 64 (N64) in December 1997, Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero tried to spin off the Mortal Kombat series into a side-scrolling action game.  It failed miserably.  Moreover, the full-motion video and sound quality did not translate too well from the PlayStation version.  Was this the low point of the series?

Please provide your opinions below.

Mortal Kombat 4 (N64) Comments

Mortal Kombat 4 for Nintendo 64 (N64), which was released in June 1998, was actually based on the arcade’s “Revision 3.”  It was a nearly flawless port.  Was Mortal Kombat 4 the pinnacle for the series, or had it already started to decline?

Mission: Impossible (N64) Comments

Mission: Impossible for Nintendo 64 (N64) was released in July 1998.  The game was light on shooting and placed greater emphasis on puzzle-solving, teamwork, gadgetry, and following orders.  Although it was certainly overshadowed by GoldenEye 007 (N64) and Metal Gear Solid (PSX), do you think Mission: Impossible should have been more popular?

Mischief Makers (N64) Comments

Prior to the release of Mischief Makers for Nintendo 64 (N64) in October 1997, Treasure was mostly known for awesome games on the Sega Genesis.  Mischief Makers may not be one of Treasure’s best, but it was a good 2D game on a 3D system with very few 2D, side-scrolling games.

Madden Football 64 (N64) Comments

Madden Football 64 for Nintendo 64 (N64) was created in a mere six months and was released in October 1997.  Notice that there is no “NFL” in the game’s title.  That’s because Acclaim had exclusive rights to the NFL license on N64 football games for one year (1997). EA did get the NFLPA (NFL Players Association) license for this version, however.  That being said, is there anything about Madden 64 that makes it worth owning over any other version?

Mace: The Dark Age (N64) Comments

Mace: The Dark Age for Nintendo 64 (N64), originally released in the arcades, came out exclusively for N64 in October 1997.  The 3D fighter tried to differentiate itself by being a weapons-based fighting game.  Has history been kind to Mace: The Dark Age?

Jet Force Gemini (N64) Comments

Jet Force Gemini for Nintendo 64 (N64) was developed by Rare and released in October 1999.  It was an ambitious game that epitomized Rare’s N64 style, with an incredible presentation, a long quest, and lots of item collection.  It was not quite as popular as Rare’s other N64 games, yet should one argue that Jet Force Gemini should have deserved better?
