Perfect Dark (N64) Comments

Perfect Dark for Nintendo 64 (N64), which was developed by Rare, arrived late in the N64’s life cycle in May 2000.  With much deeper Solo Missions and a completely customizable Combat Simulator, Perfect Dark took GoldenEye 007 to the next level.  Or did it?

Killer Instinct Gold (N64) Comments

Released in November 1996, Killer Instinct Gold for Nintendo 64 (N64) was an enhanced version of Killer Instinct 2.  (The original Killer Instinct was ported to Super Nintendo.)  Many gamers are quite fond of Rare’s Killer Instinct series.  How much did you like Killer Instinct Gold?

Jet Force Gemini (N64) Comments

Jet Force Gemini for Nintendo 64 (N64) was developed by Rare and released in October 1999.  It was an ambitious game that epitomized Rare’s N64 style, with an incredible presentation, a long quest, and lots of item collection.  It was not quite as popular as Rare’s other N64 games, yet should one argue that Jet Force Gemini should have deserved better?

GoldenEye 007 (N64) Comments

Although GoldenEye 007 for Nintendo 64 (N64) was released in August 1997, it was the best-selling game of 1998 for any system.  It went on to sell about 7 million copies worldwide.  GoldenEye 007 turned the video game world upside down with its objective-based gameplay, its multiplayer modes, and its authentic movie-to-game adaptation.  It is routinely brought up as one of the best games of all time.  The question is, does GoldenEye 007 still deserve to hold that lofty status?

Diddy Kong Racing (N64) Comments

Diddy Kong Racing for Nintendo 64 (N64) is a racing/adventure game developed by Rare and released in November 1997.  Although it did not overtake Mario Kart 64 in popularity, it was the fourth best-selling game of 1997—for any system.  It has been said that Diddy Kong Racing’s Adventure mode is better than anything Mario Kart ever offered.  But it also has been said that its multi-player action is not on the same level as the Mario Kart series.  Do you agree?

Blast Corps (N64) Comments

Blast Corps for Nintendo 64 (N64), which was developed by Rare and released in March 1997, was one of the N64’s earliest releases and arguably one of its best.  Blast Corps is an action/puzzle game that takes place in a 3/4 overhead view.  All levels in the game (except the bonus levels) require a path to be cleared for a runaway missile carrier.  The game is still very original, but is it still very good so many years later?

Banjo-Kazooie (N64) Comments

Banjo-Kazooie for Nintendo 64 (N64), which was developed by Rare and was released in June 1998, became an instant hit.  It was the fourth best-selling game of 1998 across all systems.  Some thought it was better than Super Mario 64 due to its interesting story, better presentation, and more variety.  Others thought there was too much emphasis on collecting a laundry list of items.  So where does Banjo-Kazooie fall within the best games of the 3D era?
