Zelda: Ocarina of Time (N64) Comments

After it was released in November 1998, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for Nintendo 64 (N64) was quickly hailed as one of the greatest games of all time.  It took a much-beloved 2D franchise and served it absolute poetic justice in a 3D world.  If you consider the subsequent 3D Zelda games, where you do think The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time ranks now?

Super Mario 64 (N64) Comments

Just like Super Mario Bros. brought gaming to a whole new level back in 1985, Super Mario 64 ushered us into a new era in 1996—the third dimension.  There is no doubt that it was groundbreaking when it was released for Nintendo 64 (N64).  Now the question becomes, is Super Mario 64 still one of video gaming’s all-time best?

Shadowgate 64 (N64) Comments

Created by some members of the original Shadowgate (1989) development team, Shadowgate 64: Trials of the Four Towers hit the Nintendo 64 (N64) in June 1999.  It is played from a first-person, three-dimensional, free-moving perspective.  Did Shadowgate 64: Trials of the Four Towers capture the magic of the original game?

Quest 64 (N64) Comments

Quest 64 for Nintendo 64 (N64) was the system’s first RPG when it was released in June 1998.  Certainly, Quest 64 was an RPG/adventure on the simplistic side.  After the likes of Final Fantasy VII on PlayStation, were you able to appreciate Quest 64?

Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon (N64) Comments

Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon for Nintendo 64 (N64) arrived on U.S. shelves in April 1998.  It put Goemon (i.e., Mystical Ninja) in a three-dimensional, Super Mario 64-like world, except with a little more emphasis on adventure.  Did you like Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon?

Hybrid Heaven (N64) Comments

Hybrid Heaven for Nintendo 64 (N64), which was released in September 1999, contained some refreshing concepts.  It contained a solid story that would serve nicely as the backbone to any adventure game.  It featured some action since you had full control to move your character to get around obstacles and to destroy enemies in a three-dimensional world.  It contained fighting elements within the battle system.  And it featured RPG aspects because you could “level-up” your hero along the way.  However, has Hybrid Heaven stood the test of time?

Banjo-Kazooie (N64) Comments

Banjo-Kazooie for Nintendo 64 (N64), which was developed by Rare and was released in June 1998, became an instant hit.  It was the fourth best-selling game of 1998 across all systems.  Some thought it was better than Super Mario 64 due to its interesting story, better presentation, and more variety.  Others thought there was too much emphasis on collecting a laundry list of items.  So where does Banjo-Kazooie fall within the best games of the 3D era?
